From the book "Ravensbrück" by Wanda Kiednynska, published 1965, an effort was made with survivors to assemble names and numbers from transports, as camp records were burned by the SS in 1945. A transport arrived from Poznan 24.V.1940, numbers ending around 3580 from testimony, next transport 23.VIII.1940 Kielce, Radom, Cestochowa and Tomaszow Maz including a witness 4404. At this time 4200 camp prisoners, nearly all women, some working in textiles for the military. Many were farmed out to subcamps making war material. Jews were shipped for extermination at Auschwitz or Bernurg/Saale 1942. Very few from this period, even non-Jewish Poles, survived the attrition of hunger, illness, harsh conditions, executions and extermination shipments.
